Is there a studio minimum?
Our studio minimum is $200. This is the minimum price for any tattoo session (excluding touch-ups) regardless of size, placement, or complexity.

Do you accept walk-ins?
We occasionally accept walk-ins based on artist availability.
The best way to check is to call or text the studio at (610) 696-9300, or follow us on Instagram, where we share last-minute openings via stories and our broadcast channel.

How old do I have to be to get tattooed?
You have to be 18 or older. We won't tattoo anyone under 18, even with parent/guardian permission.

Does Black Wing offer piercings?
We do not offer piercings in our studio, but we highly recommend visiting Safe Harbor Body Adornment to see the fantastic Keila! Their studio is located at 129 N Church St, West Chester, PA 19380, and is within walking distance.

Do I need a valid I.D. to get tattooed?
Yes. A valid government-issued photo identification is required for all tattoos. Unfortunately, we can not accept copies or non-photo IDs.

Where are you located?
Black Wing Tattoo Co. is located at 29 S High St., West Chester, PA 19382 on the second floor above Phineas Gauge.

Is there a required deposit for an appointment?
Yes. All artists require a non-refundable deposit when booking with them.

Is parking available near the studio?
Yes! There are two convenient parking options nearby:
Parking Garage (Recommended)
*Bicentennial Garage — located at 20 S High St., West Chester, Pa 19382 (right across the street!)
Hourly parking is available, or $9 for the full day*Metered Street Parking
Available via the Flowbird app or nearby credit card kiosks 3-hour limit

How do I book a tattoo appointment?
All custom tattoos begin by completing our booking request form you can find here. Booking Form
You may select a specific artist, or choose “Best Fit” and we’ll match you with the artist best suited for your project

What are your tattoo rates?
Pricing varies based on the size, placement, level of detail, and artist. Each artist will provide a personalized estimate during the booking process.
For reference, below are our artists’ current hourly rates:
Matt: $300 / hour
Alicia: $200 / hour
Caitlyn: $150 / hour

Do you offer touch-ups?
Yes. A complimentary touch-up can be scheduled after your tattoo is fully healed (about one month) and within 3 months of your original appointment.
We’ll need clear photos ahead of time so we can assess the tattoo and schedule accordingly.

What do I need to bring to my tattoo appointment?
A valid, non-expired photo ID (with your date of birth displayed) is required to get tattooed.
But we also want you to be comfortable, so we recommend bringing:
- Snacks and drinks to stay hydrated and keep blood sugar steady
- Headphones, a book, or anything else that may help you throughout your tattoo
- A blanket, extra hoodie, pillow, or other comfort items (the studio can run a bit cold)
- Comfortable clothing that allows easy access to the tattoo area
- A phone charger -
What if I want to change my tattoo idea?
If you would like to make any small tweaks to the existing design the day of your appointment, your artist will be more than happy to adjust the piece accordingly. Please keep in mind that such changes will require additional time to redraw.
If major changes are requested, this may require rescheduling, a new deposit, and a revised quote.
Clear communication helps our artists create something you’ll love, so it’s important to send all ideas, requests, and reference photos to your artist during the booking process to avoid any design miscommunications.

What if I need to reschedule or I’m running late?
Sometimes life happens, we understand! If you need to reschedule:
Same day: Please call/text the studio (610-696-9300), and email your artist as soon as possible
In advance: Email your artist directly
You may reschedule up to two times within six months of your deposit date without penalty.If you’re running late for your appointment:
Please call/text the shop and email your artist with your ETA
If you arrive more than 20 minutes late, your artist may reschedule your appointment and require a new deposit to rebook. -
Are there medications I should avoid before getting tattooed?
Certain medications may prevent you from being tattooed, including:
- Blood thinners
- Accutane
- Antibiotics
- NSAIDsIf you’re unsure of a medication not listed, please check with your doctor and your artist prior to your appointment.

Can I use numbing cream?
Please do not apply numbing cream before your appointment. Numbing cream can potentially cause negative side effects, so it is always best to go without.
If pain is a concern, we can provide Bactine, and we are always happy to break sessions into shorter appointments if needed.

Can I bring someone with me?
To maintain a calm, focused environment, we generally encourage clients to attend appointments on their own.
If you must bring someone, please check with your artist ahead of time, and we’ll do our best to accommodate. In those instances, guests must be 18+ and will be asked to hang out in the waiting room for the duration of your appointment.
There are also plenty of wonderful coffee shops, bars, shopping, and restaurants in town for any guest who would prefer to explore! We’d be happy to offer recommendations if needed.

What payment methods do you accept?
We accept cash and credit/debit cards.
Please note that card payments incur an additional 3% service fee.

When will I see my tattoo design?
Your artist will have your custom design ready at your appointment.
We always set aside ample time on the day of to discuss any small changes or adjustments so you feel comfortable and confident with the artwork before proceeding.

What should I avoid before my appointment?
To keep your skin in the best condition:
Avoid applying lotions, body oils, or self-tanner on the tattoo area the day of your appointment
- Avoid tanning or sunburn
- Sunburned skin cannot be tattooed and will require rescheduling
- Avoid shaving the area immediately beforehand
- If you wish to do so, a gentle electric trimmer is preferred
- Avoid alcohol for at least 24 hours before your appointment -
How should I prepare for my tattoo appointment?
A little prep goes a long way towards a safe and enjoyable appointment!
We recommend:
- Getting a good night’s sleep
- Staying well hydrated
- Eating a full meal beforehand
- Gently exfoliating and moisturizing the area in the days leading up to your appointment
